Eighth Grade Art Students tried something new this month as part of their drawing unit. They were introduced to the iPad as a tool for capturing, composing and editing their initial sketches. Students, of course, followed initial directions but actually took the project further than I had originally planned. They impressed by using this amazing tool to create a new workflow experience unable to be achieved (as easily, at least) using traditional mediums.
With this drawing project, students are learning to work in layers with transparencies, undo their mistakes, zoom in for more detail, resize/crop and rotate to create better compositions. They quickly grasped how to utilize this intuitive interface successfully and went above and beyond in demonstrating how we can expand the use of this tool in future projects.
Our eighth graders have helped show how iPads and a number of new apps can bring a whole new layer of creative learning to the Art Classroom. Students, on the fourth floor, are very much participating in their own learning. The door is always open so please stop by!
