Everyone loves to celebrate. This year fourth grade students helped to celebrate the school's 25th Anniversary by placing their name plates in an iPad mini box. Their
pictures and what they liked about 2013 at SIS were to be placed in a time capsule organized by the PSA. Birthdays are one of the happiest celebrations in a fourth grade
Classroom each year. One class has adopted the Jewish tradition of placing the lucky student on a chair and lifting him/her up once for every year.
Celebrations are an expression of culture, and in fourth grade, learning celebrations are a way for every student to share their academic progress with their parents. One of the best elements of this time is seeing the classrooms buzzing with excitement. Parents might listen to stories written by their children, or watch a presentation on iPads - a digital story about a topic that individual students have researched during that trimester. Welcoming parents into classrooms, sharing student work across the grade, and allowing both groups to see and hear the work of others, creates transparency, joy and a culture of trust. This is what learning communities at SIS strive to put in place.
