At our PYP parent workshop last Wednesday, we reflected on "what's worth knowing" based on our personal knowledge and experiences. If we can go back in time, what would we wish we learnt at school? What would we want our own children to learn about?
IB believes that while educating students through isolated subject areas is necessary, this traditional curriculum model is no longer sufficient in providing a truly international and rigorous curriculum.
In PYP, core subjects are organized through six transdisciplinary themes. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 study all themes throughout the year. Early childhood program explore four of these themes.
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- Sharing the planet
Currently, SIS staff have been working on developing units that are rigorous, standards-driven, concept-focussed and unique to our SIS context. We will be sharing our programme development with you throughout the year.
What's next? Come to our next PYP session on January 17, 2018! We would love to hear your questions about PYP!
