On Monday SIS had the great pleasure of welcoming the former 3-term governor of Vermont, Peter Shumlin, to our school. As part of his visit, Governor Shumlin kindly offered to come to Mr. Tetreault's Senior IB Economics class to discuss his experiences implementing macroeconomic policy at the state level in the USA. The Governor gave a brief overview of his time in office before turning the session over to the students for a Q&A session. Having just finished a major unit on government economics, our students asked great questions, seizing the opportunity to make connections between the theoretical world of textbooks and class and the Governor's real-world experiences; discussion ranged from the value of investing in green energy to disaster relief to the challenges of the opioid epidemic in Vermont. In our debrief, students remarked upon how much they appreciated how candid the Governor was and the level of detail he offered. Everyone involved was really excited to have had this unique opportunity.
