Since late September, the 10th Grade English classes have been working on individual research projects culminating in Historical Graphic Novels. They took their initial inspiration from Art Spiegelman’s iconic graphic novel “Maus”, and began by selecting a topic and conducting in-depth research, including a face-to-face interview with an expert in their chosen subject. Next they created a plot diagram in order to produce a compelling story. This was followed by a rough draft of their panels and captions. Finally, they created a final draft of their novels and shared them in a classroom “literary salon” this past week.
The end results are absolutely dazzling and deserve kudos. The students have managed to create compelling images which accurately depict historical events while maintaining respect for the subject matter. With the help of Mr. Yung, a compilation of graphic novels will be published online and a hard copy will be available in the bayside school library.
Congratulations Sophomores!
