To the Chinese, the Mid-Autumn Festival means family reunion and peace. The festival is celebrated when the moon is believed to be at its biggest and fullest. To Chinese people, a full moon is a symbol of happiness, prosperity and family reunion.
During Moon Festival time, we make moon cakes in the Chinese classes. As well as being a lot of fun, students participate in connecting to the culture of our host country and practice language components in an authentic context. Cultural activities strengthen motivation by helping students develop both language and cultural appreciation.
