The Traveling Teddy Project merges the use of traditional teddy bears with the use of technology to connect students around the world.
Throughout this experience our students have developed an increasing sense of global citizenship. The students are able to observe the teddies visiting different countries and are able to recognize flags and nationalities, and see different classroom settings around the world. Also, they have been provided with real opportunities to understand that there are other students like them around the world who are having the same experience, at the same time.
Jessie and Bessie, the twin sisters, have been part of the SIS community for four years now. They have shared experiences visiting different grade levels from ECC to upper elementary.
This year, Bessie spent her stay at SIS with the 3D Geckos in Mrs. K's class. Bessie provided the class an engaging and meaningful opportunity to learn about "Peace, Justice, and Stronger Institutions" which is the Sustainable Development Goal she is advocating for this year. Mrs. K skillfully crafted her students' experience so they could "become independent learners who have empathy and can collaborate on a project." Please visit Ms.K's blog for a view of the whole experience. https://share.sis.org.cn/mkuem1/2017/09/24/peace-one-day-with-bessie/
While Bessie was in 3D, Jessie Bear was roaming around four classes in ECC advocating for Wellness and Wellbeing. She started at PreK1A where she became the children's inspiration in choosing a class name. PreK1A are now called the Brave Bears. Together with the Brave Bears, Jessie enjoyed a well-deserved nap in the afternoon, healthy food during snacks, and even learned how to properly wash hands. Then she hopped into PreK2A, the Hippos where she reunited with her old friends and made more friends. Her next stop was PreK2D, the Friendly Dragons where she inspired the children to create a house which is a necessity for everyone's wellbeing. Presently, Jessie is with PreK2B, the Dancing Snails exploring the ECC outdoors to develop a healthy body.
