PreK1D decided to name our class the 'Little Giraffes". To help us identify ourselves as the little giraffes we made a unique attendance board. Every morning during circle time we guess each little giraffe's name and hang it up in the tree.
The little giraffes also talked about the rules that we will follow in our class. They are looking eyes, listening ears, inside voices, helping hands and walking feet. We talked through what each rule means and we tried to follow them.
We have also been learning to identify and express our feelings in an appropriate manner. We have been talking about the feelings - happy, sad, sleepy and angry. When we asked our little giraffes, "How are you feeling today?" We got a few answers and the reasons:
"I'm angry, mosquito bite (bit) me."
"I'm sleepy today."
"I'm happy, I want to play with my friends."
"I'm sad, I miss my mommy."
This activity helps our little giraffes practice how to identify their own feelings and try to explain why they feel that way.
