MAP testing (Measure of Academic Progress) was first introduced to SIS during the 2015-16 school year. It is an interim assessment specifically for grades 3-9. We give students MAP tests to help determine your child's instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year and year to year. The test covers the areas of Language, Reading and Math. Your child will take the tests on an iPad or computer, depending on their grade level. The MAP test is only ONE measure of academic progress and is used in conjunction with many other forms of assessment to provide a detailed picture of your child's progress at SIS.
During the first phase we worked on ensuring the MAP test was easily accessible to our students and to ensure the data we received was useful and pertinent to helping direct some of our teaching and learning. During the first phase we did not share the test results with parents particularly because we wanted to ensure we had ironed out all the kinks to implementing a new type of test situation to SIS.
We are now in our third year of MAP testing and are preparing to begin the first round of testing for this year. We complete the MAP test twice per year, in the Fall and in the Spring. Parents will be able to view the results of the MAP at designated opportunities - more information about this will come a little later. Grade 6-9 students will have their MAP results sent home with their first progress report.
More information about MAP testing at SIS will be available in a parent information session - this is predominantly for NEW parents to SIS or parents new to MAP testing.
