SIS Robotics Team Competes in Shanghai

After the first FFL Robotics competition in Guangzhou, both our teams won the chance to compete in Shanghai. On March 10th, led by our teachers (Mrs. Diaz, Miss TerrelI, Mrs. Jenkin), as well as Mr. Diaz as a kind volunteer supporter, I, as a parent, went together with the group to Shanghai. When we went to a restaurant for dinner after arriving, we met another team in the same restaurant. Our SIS kids lined up and went around their team to greet them. At that moment, my heart was touched and I was very proud of our kids. I was also grateful for our teachers and school who have taught our kids to value these most important things in life.
The next day, all kids had to get up at 6:00 am but no one complained. Everybody was excited, energized and ready for the competition. The competition lasted from morning to afternoon. The students had to make 3 presentations, answer questions, complete assigned tasks and run the lego robots in competition with other schools. The whole competition was tense, yet full of fun. The kids displayed a variety of skills including: cooperation, teamwork and encouraging each other. They also made new friends and learnt from the other teams. Finally, it was time for the awards. Our SIS Diving Dolpha-bots team won the first place for Core Values and third place for the Research Project. The Lego Leaguers team won the Team Spirit award. What a cheerful and exciting moment!
When we got back to Shekou, it was already 11:00 pm at night. It was dark and quiet, yet our kids' young faces bursted with sunny smiles, their eyes full of confidence and friendship, the sound of laughter, cheers, and encouragement of each other. The busy teachers who carried the suitcases full of the posters, materials, etc., and who were there wherever support was needed, who gave the kids confidence and love...... all of these things were flashing in front of my eyes for a long long time. I knew this would be my unforgettable memory and I'm sure it is for our kids as well.

Our students had a few things to say about their exciting competition too.
The robotics competition in Shanghai was a huge success!I had no idea that we would win but when I realized how awesome the people were, I had much more confidence. Robotics is the best ASA ever! (Fiona)
The competition flew by quickly and it was amazing. Before I knew it, our team, the Diving Dolpha-bots were holding the Core Values trophy in our hands. How did it happen? All of our hard work paid off. (Betty Lu)
This weekend for me was about the experience and I am looking forward to the next one, hopefully with more fun and laughter. (Nicholas)
