ES STUCO stands for elementary Student Council. Its role is to represent the voice and concerns of our ES student body, engage in service opportunities with the larger community, and practice the roles and responsibilities of leadership. At the beginning of each school year, students in Grades 4 and 5 are given the opportunity to run for STUCO Executive Council. They are responsible for writing a speech, creating a campaign poster, and then delivering their speech at an assembly in front of Grades 2-5. Students in these grades then vote to elect five representatives for the Executive Council. Classroom representatives from Grades 2-5 are also elected by their classes and participate in monthly STUCO meetings, after which they return to their classrooms to communicate upcoming STUCO events.
The STUCO Executive Council members usually meet on a weekly basis in order to plan school events, brainstorm service opportunities at SIS or the larger community, and communicate events to the student body.Past STUCO supported events have included Spirit Days, book swaps, bike safety, and different fundraising events for global causes.
ES STUCO also gives students scaffolded leadership experience to utilize as they grow older, especially if they have an interest in participating in STUCO later on in middle and high school.
