Chinese Classrooms Celebrate Moon Festival
Posted 09/20/2016 08:33AM

To the Chinese, mid-Autumn Festival means family reunion and peace. The festival is celebrated when the moon is believed to be the biggest and fullest. To Chinese people, a full moon is a symbol of happiness, prosperity and family reunion.

In the Chinese department, we celebrated the Moon Festival with four different activities this year. Activity 1 is called "大珠小珠落玉盘" (Sponge balls). Students used two sticks to cooperate and deliver sponge balls in pairs. Activity 2 is called "团团圆圆"(Chopsticks and glass balls). Students used chopsticks to pick up glass balls and put them into another basket. Those two games used the ball as a symbol for the moon. Activity 3 is called "中秋故事" (Story of Mid Autumn Festival). Students learned/reviewed the story about Houyi and Chang E (the legend of the Moon Lady) by watching a short video clip. Activity 4 is a game called "花好月圆" (Puzzle game). Students played puzzles with mid-Autumn Festival pictures on it and made their own puzzles.

Through the above games and video, students will make better connections with the spirit of the mid-Autumn Festival. Spend time with your family and friends! Have fun!
