The ECC Experience - A Caring CommunityThe first day of school is always exciting for students and parents, but especially when it is the first day EVER. Many students starting in the ECC are joining school for the first time and with this comes lots of questions and new experiences. To help support our new parents, build a strong home/school partnership, and ease into the school year, the ECC held Parent Information Nights during the first week of school.Parents joined the Parent Information Nights to learn about The ECC Experience at SIS. It was a great opportunity for parents to meet other parents, and to be welcomed to the SIS family. Our skilled teachers shared information ranging from curriculum to daily schedules, from child safety to language development, and from how best to celebrate a birthday to ideas for healthy snacks and lunches. Our knowledgeable and experienced teachers offered their professional advice on a range of questions. ECC parents asked about topics as varied as managing multiple languages at home and school to how best to support their child's transition to school. A common theme for parents and teachers was building each child's sense of belonging, confidence, and independence. "I can do it!" is a phrase we want to hear from all of our young students.
Over the next few weeks, ECC teachers will continue to reach out to parents through one-on-one meetings, phone calls and email communication, photo streams, and blogs. All of these are our way to embrace our new families and help them feel welcomed. At SIS, we are a caring community.
