People lined up outside the Jingshan SPAH on Saturday, February 27, eagerly waiting for the doors to open and for the SIS Annual High School Fashion Show to begin. For those involved with the show, the night they had been waiting for, after months of hard work, had finally arrived.
Emcees Javier Wong and TJ Salg, both seniors at SIS, led the audience on a trip through time with this year's theme, "Fashion Through the Decades," which featured student-created designs from the 1970's to the present. Over forty high school students from grades 9 through 12 participated as designers, models, or both in this year's show.
The show owed its success, in large part, to an amazing and talented team of student leaders. Seniors Hajira Kamran, Molly Brooker, Ellen Soderberg, and TJ Salg, and juniors Francesca Tinga and Jonathan Sung, worked for months to put together an amazing show for the students and community at SIS.
Hajira Kamran has been involved with the fashion show as a designer since she was a freshman. This year would be her last, and as the Director of the show, she wanted it to be special.
"From the start my aim was to make it [fashion show] completely student run, an event that would raise money for charity, and an event that gave back to our community. I definitely think we achieved this, not only with this money earned but with the satisfaction and enjoyment from the student/teacher/parent body." - Hajira Kamran, Director
I would have to say that her goal indeed was achieved. Over 6,000 RMB was raised with 100 percent of the money going towards TASSEL, (Teaching and Sharing Skills to Enrich Lives).
For me, as a the show supervisor for 5 years, it is always so amazing to see the designers' sketches come to life from paper to the runway. I love that the fashion show gives students this opportunity to be creative, artistic, innovative, and to share it with others.I would like to congratulate all of those involved in putting together yet another amazing show for the community! Having heard from students, former students, parents, and teachers, this was all-around one of the best fashion shows yet at SIS!
