With the MS volleyball season in a full swing I would like to take a moment to share with you some updates on the biggest goals and challenges of this season. We finished our first phase stage of preparation when students where enhancing their skills as well as their understanding of the game. For the coaches the most important aspect was to really get to know the players and and their potential. Based on that, we decided who would be our setters, receivers and hitters. This also helped us to decide the most suitable formation to utilize during games. A big thanks to coach Meaghan Wilson who supports us whenever she can.
As a volleyball coach with about 10 year of experience under my belt I know that no matter how skillful your players are as individuals, actual playing time is necessary to build a team. As a player you need to learn to cope with your emotions which is a different level of stress compared with practice and learn to work together as a team so that communication becomes automatic.
The first 2 matches against QSI and AISG proved it well. The level of tension among players was high resulting in their skills and decision making not reaching full potential. Things which were working well during practices seemed to be a challenge now. However with every game we were able to cope with it in a better way and we won last game against ASIG. Coach Yung and I were really pleased to observe such a different quality of performance between our first and last match and we are definitely looking forward to the next challenges of the season.
