Boys' Touch Rugby Team Win PRC Championship

What a couple of AMAZING weekends in terms of development, teamwork and just plan FUN!
It was a short season for the middle school touch rugby team, but after just 4 weeks of learning the game, the boys came away with some great results and found a love for this phenomenal game. With two tournaments on a fast approach there wasn't much time to waste, practice was intense, but everyone rose to the challenge.
The SDRC competition hosted by AISG was the first on the list and it pulled the most competitive teams from the Southern Delta Region. After a fourth place finish in the pool play of the tournament, the boys were put against a team that previously beat them 10-1, CDNIS, for the third place trophy. After 40 minutes of UNBELIEVABLE play, the Geckos were knotted at 2-2 with the Timberwolves. A golden try seals the fate and with the overtime rules, one player must drop off the field after every 2 minutes. With 4 players on the pitch, the boys strung together 3 passes getting it to the shifty wing who dove in for the game winning try! WHAT A FINISH, third place was ours!
If that wasn't enough of a great finish to a tournament, the PRC Championship was on the line the next weekend. It was dark, it was rainy and it was COLD, but that didn't stop our Geckos from playing some beautiful rugby. With frozen hands and chattering teeth the boys continued to take one team after another, until they found themselves matched against a touch BSG team, the hosts of the tournament. By the end of the game, the boy's communication was spot on, their feet were fast and they were a single unit. Defense was organized and their attacking was strategic. By the end of the game there was no doubt, PRC Champions!
A short, but inspiring season! Thanks boys for a great time and MANY laughs!
