Six Shekou International School students participated in the Tournament of Champions which was held Nov. 20-25 at Yale University. They showed outstanding debate skills, winning most of their debates even with stiff competition from 500 scholars from 40 countries. The tournament at Yale University was the final of the year and was the hardest round. All the teams that attended the Tournament of Champions were composed of well seasoned debaters and top scholars who went through regional and global rounds to land a spot at the Tournament of Champions.
SIS's six scholars are:
Senior team: Minseok Rick Choi(10), Donghyuk John Kim(11), Dain Kim(10)
Junior team: Derek Chenhao Yao(8), Woohyeok Ryan Choi(8), Seungmin Kim(10)
The senior team won all 3 debates and the junior team won twice and lost once. They overwhelmed their opponent teams and performed wonderfully. They were awarded many titles and awards. Rick Choi won medals on Social Studies and honor roll on Individual Challenge overall. The senior team received honor roll on Team Challenge overall. Rick Choi and Seungmin Kim won a medal as a top school scorer.
All the students who participated deserve to be praised and we give them a warm round of applause. SIS's World Scholars Cup team will start their new journey and embark on a new learning experience and season of fellowship in 2015's new season.
