QR Codes and Advertising in Grade 2

Grade 2 Students use QR codes on posters as a link to digital ads for their upcoming Market Day.
As part of their Consumers and Producers unit, grade 2 students have been preparing goods and services for their Market Day for grade 5 students on June 12. To support grade 2, Diana Beabout (eLearning coach) and Gaylene Livingston (ES librarian) showed students how adding a QR code (Quick Response Code) to a poster could promote more interest in their product or service. A QR code provides a link to content on the internet and is used by many businesses and organizations to provide access to multimedia and interactive content to consumers. All you need is a QR code reader app on a mobile device. Since all grade 5 students have QR code readers on their iPads, this provides grade 2 students an opportunity to promote their good or service beyond a paper poster. Grade 2 students have been making short digital ads on their shared classroom iPads and posting them to their blogs. Then with a link to their post, Ms. Beabout and Mrs. Livingston provided the service of creating a QR code for them. The QR code was printed out and attached to the poster. Grade 5 students can now get more information about the grade 2 goods and services and make more informed decisions about where to spend their Market Day Dollars on Market Day!
