This semester saw the beginning of a new after school activity at the Bayside campus. Aerial silks is a newer art form that combines gymnastics, dance, and yoga: all in the air! Most people are familiar with the incredible aerial performances in the world famous Cirque du Soleil, but few are familiar with this activity as a way of building confidence, strength, and flexibility in young people. The ASA meets twice a week and has participants from grade 6 to grade 12. The class is open to everyone. Some students have had extensive gymnastics or dance training and some have none at all. The ASA is growing rapidly in popularity, we now have a group of teachers who meet regularly to practice after the kids are finished. Aerial arts are a fun and unique way to get in shape and provides an alternative to more traditional, competitive team sports. The ASA will continue to meet twice a week next year during the fall semester. Currently, kids meet on Tuesdays and Fridays after school. Come check us out!
