The students from 6 Earth Advisory recently completed their service project by hosting a Parents’ Night Out event in the Jingshan Villa SPAH. They worked hard to organize several activities to keep approximately 60 SIS students in grades K-2 occupied, while their parents enjoyed a night out on the town!
Service learning is a major component of our advisory program here at the SIS Bayside campus. As such, the students in 6 Earth spent several months devising and carrying out a plan to provide a valuable service to the community, while at the same time helping out less fortunate children in the local area by holding a toy drive during the event. As a result of all of their hard work, the 6th graders collected a multitude of brand new toys that will be donated to a local orphanage.
The 6th grade students worked together to create a schedule of activities for the night including: a pizza dinner, a card making activity, a treasure hunt, a hat making center, movie time, a clown and a magician too! The K-2 students were eager and excited from the start and kept the 6th graders busy throughout the evening.
The event was a huge success for both the 6th graders and the K-2 students involved. Feedback from both parents and students has been overwhelmingly positive, and the 6th graders are eager to host the event again in the future.
