Educational leadership in PE
Needless to say that our school is doing fantastic job at collaboration between different divisions.
Over the last few weeks the elementary school PE department has been collaborating with its counterpart in HS. Thanks to Ms. Knoflick and her 9th graders, our students had a chance to participate in fun and meaningful lessons, which were led by very enthusiastic Grade 9 school students. The task was to teach some variations of Scottish dance, which is called Virginia Reel.
We were pleased to watch them organising our students into groups, then delivering instructions and all this was taking place in a fun and caring atmosphere. For teachers, it is a great experience to watch Grade 9 students becoming leaders. We could see in their faces that it was quite a challenge for them, asking questions like, ?are they going to listen to us? or ? are they actually going to be able to get this difficult dance? were often coming from their mouths.
The final performance at the end of each lesson proved how much of a great job the Grade 9 did and how much fun our elementary school students were experiencing during these lessons. Also we were really proud of the Grade 9 school students, that in spite of some fears, they were able to put it together and be such great leaders balancing fun and instruction delivery.
