In January, parents, teachers, administrators, and students converged on the Gecko Grill to take part in Parent Migration Interviews! Fourth grade students from 4A, 4B, and 4C, were separated into groups of three and assigned the task of learning the migration stories of the various adults in the room. Some people spoke about themselves and the moves that eventually led them to China. Others delved into the past and spoke about ancestors who fought in wars long ago or smuggled aboard steamer ships to reach new lands. Students were kept busy listening, taking notes, and asking questions. Each group was given only ten minutes with each adult so the time passed quickly!
Students used the information from these interviews to create iMovies which were later presented to parents during Learning Comes Alive. Parents participated in a lesson from our Migration unit and watched history come to life through the eyes of their children!
