SIS grade 8 student Jake Vincent was selected to play last Sunday in an exhibition rugby match during one of the most popular annual sporting events in Asia, the Hong Kong Sevens. Jake was on the field in front of thousands of rugby fans with a youth squad from the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union.
Jake has just completed his 4th full season of playing rugby in Hong Kong with the last two years involving full contact 15-man and 7-man games. He plays for the Hong Kong Football Club based at Happy Valley in the front row scrum position tighthead prop. Since last November, Jake has been training with the HK National Age Group U14 representative squad with both the 15-man and 7-man rugby squads. He traveled to HK (after completing his school work) on Mondays and Wednesdays for training with the national squad and on Thursdays to train with his club team. On Sunday's Jake plays games with his club in Hong Kong.
In addition to his HK rugby experiences, Jake has represented SIS on our MS Touch Rugby, Soccer, and Swim teams. Jake is now part of a monitoring and mentor program with the HKRFU where his progress will be monitored over the next 4 years with the goal of making it through to the men's professional rugby stage. We will be watching and cheering for Jake as he continues to progress in his rugby career.
