Theme: "Increase Empathy: Opening mind sets and Expanding Views."
The Grade 9 Week Without Walls trip was a fantastic week of activity and cultural learning near Qingyuan just north an hour or so of Guangzhou. This area is known as little Guilin and is strikingly beautiful.
An array of activities filled the week where the students challenged themselves and enjoyed working together with their classmates. Students participated in a variety of activities designed to build confidence, teamwork, communication, independence, leadership skills and outdoor technical skills all within a natural setting. The students also spent a couple of mornings for community service working at the local Kindergarten beautifying the campus and painting tires that will be used decoratively and for activities. The following morning our students taught and played games with these very excited Kinder kids.
Outdoor activities, such as caving, biking, rock climbing and hiking took students down dirt roads and through fields to provide an overview of southern China rural life. Cultural activities like tofu making and touring the Peng family house shed light on traditional practices, history, and local identity of the area.
The activities throughout the program created a holistic understanding about the ever-changing realities of modern China through unmatched and unique experiences for all.
