The Grade 10 students had an educational and rewarding trip to Lijiang and Shaxi in Yunnan Province. They spent their week in wide variety of physical activities, community service, and cultural exploration.

The grade 8 trip was short, but full of substance. All students feel as a big grade 8 family and understand the importance of all they can achieve when they work together.

For the past two weeks, Grade 2 students have been started their Unit of Inquiry "How do we Organize ourselves." Processes have been a central part of this unit, and the scientific and design process were both introduced.

Halloween is always an exciting day of fun activities at SIS! Students, teachers, and parents all get involved with wearing costumes, playing Halloween themed games, and participating in a parade around the sports field.

Every year in October, the French Program enjoys participating in the "Week of Taste," a special week in France.

Tuesday morning, our grades 2 and 3 parents had an opportunity to experience a math mini lesson so that they could understand how math is taught at SIS.

Grade 5 has been studying civilizations. Based on their research, the students had to create a Keynote presentation describing the best way to form a civilization.

The Dancing Snails have enjoyed building their own house with the big blocks in our classroom. To extend their interest and knowledge in this area we have begun to read stories that feature houses in them.

We had thirteen fourth and fifth grade students step up to the courageous task of campaigning for student council (STUCO). Five students were elected on Friday, September 15th.

Last week was an exciting and busy time in the ECC with our first 'Learning Comes Alive', Middle School learning buddies, and a visiting EAL consultant delivering workshops to staff and parents.

During Moon Festival time, we make moon cakes in the Chinese classes, which strengthens motivation by helping students develop both language and cultural appreciation.

Last week Meaghan Wilson's 7th and 8th grade Life Skills classes visited PreK-1 and PreK-2 classrooms. This is the start of a year long collaboration, where middle school students plan and implement lessons related to healthy living to ECC classes.

An SIS Gecko since grade 6, Anna Duan has spent the last two summer vacations attending summer school at top universities. Anna took on Columbia and Oberlin this summer after having attended summer school at Harvard last year.
