Spending a summer at Columbia University in New York has helped Coco Lau, grade 11, shape her future. After taking a three week course in marketing called Communicating with Consumers - Introduction to Marketing and Advertising, Coco has set her sights on a career in Marketing.

The graduating class of 2016 has been the most successful cohort of the past five years. The results trumpet a string of exemplary results: the highest Diploma point pass of 40 out of a possible 45 for an SIS student; the highest ever SIS average cohort Diploma pass rate of 86.4%, 7.4% above the world average; the highest ever SIS average point score per subject of 5.25 compared to the world average of 4.6; the highest ever SIS average Diploma point score of 33 compared to a world average of 30.

Avivi attended Stanford's summer school program and was excited to take Applied Visual Arts and Design. As her final project, Avivi designed an ice cube that goes into a water bottle and then takes the temperature of the water. She also designed an app to accompany the ice cube.

On Friday, the ECC team invited one of our quiet heroes: Ms. Ah Hua, in for a surprise celebration and thank you. After many years working with our SIS children, Ms. Ah Hua is now ready to retire.

The ECC held Parent Information Nights during the first week of school to help support our new parents, build a strong home/school partnership, and ease into the school year. Parents joined to learn about The ECC Experience at SIS.

Two SIS high school students hit the volleyball nets at University of Southern California's Volleyball Camp this summer. Both girls have a passion for volleyball and wanted to improve their game. Though they both had days where they could not walk, they had an incredible experience.

Two Shekou International School students attended summer school at Harvard University in Boston. Though they did not take the same classes, both had similar life-changing experiences.

IB students will be participating in an IB focus day on September the 1st at the Ming Wah Hotel to help set the context and scope of the expectations for the IB Diploma Program.

On May 14, 2016, twenty "Mathletes" from grades 7-12 at SIS set sail to Macau to compete against some of the top math students from our region. The teams from SIS battled it out all day leading to a nail-biting finish on the final question to break a tie.

The idea for "Bringing Books to Life" was sparked by our Library's Book Week back in March, but was postponed a few times due to rain. Our ECC PSA remained enthusiastic and continued to plan until the weather cooperated. When it finally did, the event offered our young readers an engaging and entertaining way to think about how their books can come to life.

Recently, the IT department went through a process of revamping older desktop machines and, using spare parts, managed to construct over 30 working machines. While these had limited use at SIS, Robert Park imagined how these machines could have a second life and help other students.

Many people have asked me recently how this project came to be, and why we replaced the traditional spring musical with a devised multimedia performance. The answer is that this play evolved out of a series of happy coincidences and accidents.

The day of the exhibition saw students, parents, and community members stream in to the space for five hours, continuously. The 8th Graders helped guide guests through the exhibits, presented information on their topics, discussed guiding questions, documented the process, and interviewed visitors, asking for feedback and reflections.
