A huge thank you goes out to our PSA team for organizing another fun-filled Winter Bazaar. We enjoyed seeing so many of our families and Shekou community members enjoying the food and games.

The ECC wrapped up their International Weeks with an International Parade on the sports field last Friday. Students and teachers were proudly dressed up in outfits that represent their countries.

Students in 1st grade began their journey within the AMPed program at SIS this past Wednesday. Every Day 3 these students get to experience an alternative learning experience to what is common in a traditional classroom.

This week we hosted three workshops to help parents learn more about our approach to teaching and learning mathematics. These workshops were led by teachers and gave parents an opportunity to become students again and have a hands-on experience of a math workshop.

Shekou International School has launched for the first time the "SIS First Lego League Team." These ambitious students will participate in SIS's first robotics competition, the First Lego League Tournament, to be held in Guangzhou on Saturday, February 18, 2017.

In ECC, our International Celebrations are in full swing! In addition to our classroom learning, our ECC PSA sponsored and organized three "internationally themed" field trips this week to support our ECC International Celebrations.

Last week, Shekou International School (SIS) along with two other international schools, sponsored a European Chamber of Commerce Event, "Your Child's Future Higher Education: What You Should Know." SIS's high school counselor, Michael Clancy, was one of the featured speakers and both Michael Clancy and Mike Livingston, SIS's secondary principal participated in a panel that answered parent questions.

On Wednesday November 23, SIS Drama Club presented their musical, "Pirates!" The show was written by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson. Congratulations ES Drama Club on your amazing performance!

Over the past weekend, 24 fifth grade and 10 sixth grade students participated in the 2nd annual Math Olympiad Tournament. This year, 5th grade was honored to have two teams place in the top five for points overall.

6 High school students recently participated in a housebuilding excursion in Manila, Philippines. The trip built much more than the foundation of a house, but also built character and more open-minded students who will look outward to serve others for a long time to come.

On Tuesday evening, Nov. 15th, SIS IB Music students performed a recital of classical and contemporary solo piano and voice repertoire. Our talented SIS students are well on their way to successful completion of the IB music program.

The Middle School Halloween Dance was held last Friday, November 11. It was a great event thanks to everybody's contribution. We can't wait to see what the next dance will be like.

Our 9th grade class traveled to a small village north of Qingyuan during Week Without Walls. While there, they engaged in physical, cultural, plus exploratory activities. Here are reflections from two of our grade 9 students about their favorite aspects of the trip.

This past week, 48 6th graders and 6 teachers embarked on a journey in self-discovery, collaboration and community on Lantau island. The smiles told the story of a great week, for teachers and students alike.

While living in Shanghai, Joon Choi had the opportunity to pursue his passion for history and cajoled his way into an internship at the Shanghai Museum designed for university students when he was just in 9th grade.

Ten groups from our ES team competed for the best Halloween costume this year. Grade 1 was voted the winner and the Specialist team was the runner up. Congratulations!

Last Friday SIS students and staff dressed up in fancy costumes for the Halloween celebration. ECC kids went on a parade while ES students had fun at Spooky Stations set up all around the campus.

On Monday, Nov. 7th, we are excited to have 2 guest choral clinicians from the USA coming to SIS to work with our students. They are Roger Emerson and John Jacobson, and are very well known for their choral music compositions and their work with teachers.

We are pleased to announce that our global search for a new Elementary Principal for next year has been successfully concluded. Harish Kanabar has accepted the opportunity to lead our elementary division beginning next fall.

Last week our High School Volleyball team got 1st and 2nd place in the ACAMIS tournament in Tianjin. Well done to both girls and boys teams, their coaches and the fantastic support they received from parents during the season.

With typhoon Haima approaching the coast near us, SIS will be closed tomorrow, Friday, October 21, to ensure the safety of our students and staff. No classes will be held. The location and impact of storms is difficult to predict, so we encourage all to please take care and stay safe.

We had a great turn out for the Movie Night last Saturday. Both kids and parents enjoyed the amazing movie and the delicious food. Thank you PSA for organizing this wonderful event!

This is the time of year when most of the SIS Seniors complete and submit their applications to university. Next Friday, SIS will be visited by University of Southern California.

We are now in our second year of MAP testing and have just completed the first round of testing for this year. We have also just shared the results from last year and this year, with parents of students in grades 3-9.

Before the break, our PreK-1 & 2 students enjoyed a bit of water fun. The ECC playground was transformed into a mini water park for tots. Even our teachers enjoyed splashing with the kids.

Kasey Perry, a literacy consultant based in the United States visited SIS during September to work with the Elementary school teachers. Both teachers and parents learned a great deal during the visit.
