Reading is an important pillar in the German classes. For this reason German students at ES are regularly reading. In Kindergarten and Grade 1, the reading skills of the students are still very limited. In both these grade levels stories are read out loud with student-teacher dialogue. The German teacher usually reads two or three sentences and reflects with the students to ensure each student’s comprehension. This advantage of this process is that students actively participate. In Grade 1 students are working with the book "The Robber Hotzenplotz " by German author Ottfried Preußler. Students in Grades 2 - 5 attend the ES library every Wednesday and read also with the support of the teacher. Students plan on reading "King Kong, das Meerschwein” about a sea pig" (Grade 2) , "Mini-Geschichten" about an elementary school student (Grade 3) and "Ronia the Robber's Daughter" (Grades 4 & 5). The SIS ES library has a small collection of German books. The number of German books in the library will grow every year.
