Our community cares deeply about learning and when author David M. Schwartz visited our elementary school it wasn't surprising to hear and see our students actively engaged in lively presentations involving mathematics, science and story-telling. Each Kindergarten through grade five class attended two assemblies led by the author on September 19 and 20.
David M. Schwartz has written almost 50 different books which often connect math and science with literature and daily life. His creative work explores our wonder of the world and includes ideas about big numbers, patterns in nature and how creatures hide in their habitats. Mr. Schwartz definitely had us all thinking about our shared world and how much more we will learn as we grow, inquire and explore. How lucky we are to be provoked, inspired and challenged to wonder!
One of the highlights for our kindergarten to grade 5 students was when Mr. Schwartz taught us about big numbers and seemed to magically produce an enormous bag of popcorn to help us count and understand! Counting exponentially by the power of 10 became extremely exciting!
We are a learning community who value the power of words. Thanks to Mr. Schwartz for sharing his creativity, making connections, and inspiring us to wonder while helping us strengthen our love of reading!

I would like to extend a special thank you to our many PSA Library volunteers for helping with our author visit book sales prior to the assemblies. The children were delighted with their signed books. Together, we make a difference in the lives of our children! The Mountainside library has 11 different titles written by David M. Schwartz. Please visit and check them out!
