On Tuesday of last week, Bayside held a Parent Coffee Talk surrounding the use of Edmodo for students in the middle and high school. Following the great turnout, teachers immediately noticed an increase in the number of parents connected to their class.
Edmodo is a Learning Management System that allows teachers to communicate with, deliver content to, and track the progress of students in a variety of ways. This powerful tool allows for students to access their classes at any time, from any place. Breaking down the traditional classroom walls gives students agency over their learning journey, a vital skill in the ever-changing landscape of education. Students are able to share resources with everyone in the class and comment on each other's posts, allowing for a truly interactive learning community.
The Edmodo platform also allows for parents to stay involved in your child's learning journey. Parents are able to see assignments, quizzes, and posts that teachers have given to any class in which your child is enrolled. If there is a due date given to an assignment, parents can track the submission (or lack of submission) of these assignments and the proficiencies given to these assignments. This is a truly powerful bridge to complete the partnership between parents and teachers for helping our young learners at SIS.
For those of you who have middle or high school students, here are the steps that you will need to complete to gain access to your child's classes:
- Sign up for a Edmodo Parent Account
- Get your child's Parent Code (this is unique for each student). This can be done in two ways:
- Ask your child for this code (they can access their Parent Code from their Edmodo account)
- Contact your child's teacher to obtain the Parent Code
- Download the mobile apps (optional)
- Visit the Parent Resource Center
If you have any questions on how to access your Edmodo account, please visit a Genius Bar at either Parkside or Bayside.
