On Thursday, 4 May, the ECC PSA transformed the Mountainside Campus into a magical literary wonderland for the ECC students. Inspired by the kids' favorite books and authors, the ECC PSA designed a series of activities and stations to "bring books to life." Children followed their maps and collected stickers as they completed each station.
Each class rotated through interactive activities such as The Caterpillar Crawl, based on "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," or the Balance Game inspired by Mo Willems' "There's a Bird on Your Head." The Dinosaur Dig and Shape Art Stations were inspired by the children's interests in the many books about these topics. To keep energized, children enjoyed home-made Dr. Seuss snacks, including strawberry, banana, and marshmallow sticks made to look like The Cat in the Hat. And in the library, the children were mesmerized as they listened to our ECC PSA moms read stories aloud in various languages.
The idea for "Bringing Books to Life" was sparked by our Library's Book Week back in March, but was postponed a few times due to rain. Our ECC PSA remained enthusiastic and continued to plan until the weather cooperated. When it finally did, the event offered our young readers an engaging and entertaining way to think about how their books can come to life. Thank you, PSA!
