Would you like to spend your Friday mornings participating in fun learning activities? If the answer is yes, then you need to come to the first grade classrooms to check out Switcheroo.
You may be wondering what Switcheroo even is. Well, it is basically what it sounds like. The students switch between the four first grade classrooms as they participate in an activity that relates to our curriculum. After about an hour of participating in these activities, the students return to their classrooms and complete a reflection page. This page asks the students to reflect on their behavior, their participation, and if they worked with a new friend. The reflections are a great way for the students to take responsibility for their actions.
Now you might be asking what kind of activities do you do? All of our activities are built from our curriculum and ESLRs. When the students started using math manipulatives, we held a Switcheroo where they were able to spend extra time with these manipulatives and use them in different ways. When we talked about collaboration, the students had to collaborate with one another to complete a specific task in each classroom. We also use Switcheroo to celebrate important events and get our parents involved. Our parents and Teachers Assistants organized a Switcheroo for Mid-Autumn Festival where the kids were able to eat moon cakes and write calligraphy! So if you are ever free on a Friday morning please stop by!
