8 Water Week Without Walls
Posted 11/12/2013 01:29PM

The grade 8 Week Without Walls trip saw some changes to last years trip to the same location.  The home stay village location changed due to difficulty in housing such a large number of students.

The new village allowed the students new opportunities for service.  In the past, students assisted the villages in cementing paths or areas by carrying gravel and sand, but this year, the students controlled the project.  They actually mixed, laid, and smoothed the cement under supervision.

Angel Sun had this to say about the trip, “While helping others we get to do things we have never done before.  We make a difference. We learn about other cultures and how they live their lives.”

Nathan Brooker added: “The students really enjoyed having us there.  We did crafts and played games with us.  It was good to be able to take charge with the cement as well.”

Jack Wilding noticed how the trip developed his leadership skills. “When we taught the children crafts it was fun to be the leader and show others how to do the job.  I enjoyed making cement even though my back hurt.”

Many members of the advisory remarked how they enjoyed being able to see the finished product of their work.  They even have been brainstorming things next years grade 8 can do in the village.
