From November 15 to 21, 2015, twenty-one high school students from Shekou International School traveled to Singapore to participate in The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN), a five-day simulation of the United Nations where students represent delegates from countries around the world and work together toward peaceful solutions to real world problems.
The SISMUN team, led by directors Charles Tetreault and Dorie MacCormack, were assigned the countries of Argentina and Estonia to represent at the conference. Three SIS students from the team were selected from a wide pool of well-qualified candidates to serve in leadership positions at THIMUN. Jane Lee, a junior, was appointed the Deputy President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and Dain Kim, also a junior, was appointed to the International Court of Justice to serve as a Judge.
For Annie Sun, a senior, it was a distinguished honor to end her MUN career as the Deputy President in the International Court of Justice and give a closing speech in front of approximately 1,500 conference participants.
"With the conclusion of THIMUN Singapore 2015, my seven year MUN journey has come to an end. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this amazing program, and be involved in various fruitful debates. I began in Middle School as a timid participant, but with the support of SIS staff and the THIMUN program I have learned valuable skills such as communication and public speaking. It was it was an honor to serve as the 2015 Deputy President of the International Court of Justice. Thank you to Mr. Tetreault and Mrs. MacCormack for coaching and traveling with us. I wish all the current and future MUNers the best of luck!"

Another highlight from the conference was the skillful negotiation and debate of Thomas Salg, a senior and main submitter of a resolution in ECOSOC that would pass with an overwhelming vote of 45 for, 1 against, 12 abstentions. All of SISMUN is to be congratulated on the hard work and dedication it takes to prepare for and participate in THIMUN, which is one of the most prestigious MUN conferences in Asia.
When not solving the world's problems, the team enjoyed the wonderful sites and food that Singapore has to offer.
