One of my favorite times during the day is between 7:40 and 8:00. It is wonderful to see all of the students making their way down the various sidewalks on campus towards their buildings. They are smiling, laughing, and excited to get to their classrooms and start learning.
As I greet the students on their way to school, I am noticing an increase in those who are riding their bicycles, scooters, or skateboards to school. With this being the case, I wanted to remind all of our parents to encourage their children to wear helmets when traveling on these vehicles. Safety is one of our top priorities at SIS, and we want our students to be safe both in and out of the school day.
A quick Internet search on the topic of bike helmets produces many hits and interesting reading. A few that I found particularly interesting were on Helmets.org, NCBI and The Conversation.
Please join me in encouraging safety and bike helmet use.
