Our year is off to an amazing start with six Executive Officers and classroom representatives elected during September for the elementary student council or STUCO. This year, the elected officers will be working collaboratively with equal obligations to contribute to the group rather than having specific roles such as president or treasurer. By doing so, all members will have more opportunities to take on various leadership roles.
The Executives began the year with two formal meetings working on team building, communication, and brainstorming potential service learning projects and spirit days for the elementary school. It was clear during these discussions that the six young leaders are very passionate about being global citizens and helping those in need both locally and globally. During the first full council, the Executives led the 2nd through 5th graders through a variety of activities to learn about one another and share their vision for the year.
This week, the officers had the opportunity to work with our Parent Support Association (PSA) to embark on a local charity event. The students worked during recesses, lunches, and after school to organize the "Boxes of Hope" campaign and created an informative movie to help the elementary students understand the scope of this charity. This is an Early Childhood through grade 12 event with the focus to bring smiles and happiness to children in a local orphanage. Our goal is for each family to contribute to this worthwhile cause.
