Middle School Girls' Soccer
Posted 10/29/2013 10:46AM

Although the middle school girls’ soccer team saw only four players returning from last year’s undefeated SDRC championship team, the team approached this years tournament with optimism.

Tri-captain Daisy Van Stevenink had this to say before the tournament. “Because this year there aren’t many players that are older than us we have more responsibility.  We have had to take on many roles including leadership ones.  It doesn’t matter how we finish.  I won’t care because this is a good team and we worked hard to get here. “

As the tournament began, the Geckos displayed of spirit of SDRC.  When they got to the field, they immediately sought out players from opposing teams.  This continued throughout the tournament.

The first game of the tournament became the Gecko’s only win of the tournament against Utaloy’s B team.  Friday’s match against QSI resulted in a tie dashing the Gecko’s hopes for a fourth place seeding.  After a disappointing loss to Utaloy’ B team on Saturday, the ladies regained back their positive attitude.  They reflected on the positivity from this year and made plans for an improved season.
