Pirates! Steal the Show
Posted 05/28/2014 09:51AM
Shiver me timbers, there’s a stowaway on board! At least there was last week as forty-one elementary students put on the musical, Pirates! After ten weeks of learning songs, choreography, and lines, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students put it all together on stage for two sold-out performances.
The show began with an impressive entrance as a crew of swashbuckling pirates marched on stage singing “Pirates All Are We.” But to their dismay, they quickly found a stowaway trying to board their ship. The stowaway’s dream was to become a pirate, but this gang of bearded pirates wouldn’t hear of it and sent the poor stowaway to the brig.
Soon, the King of the High “C’s” entered the stage, belting out her melodious octaves. She was leading the gang of pirates in a singing competition. But, ahoy and avast, the king caught laryngitis and their hopes of winning the competition were in jeopardy. In the end, the stowaway saved the day with her beautiful singing voice. And her wish came true: she became a full-on, blow-me-down, shiver-me-timbers pirate of the briny sea!
Cast members worked together to create the best production possible. Every member had a strength, either singing in parts; dancing to rock ’n’ roll, calypso, and ballet; or transforming into a scurvy pirate with creative voices and actions. It was wonderful to see students grow, not only in their abilities, but also in their confidence, throughout the whole experience.
Congratulations to our entire cast!
