The French Bilingual Program Grade 4 and 5 students have studied the First World War.

In order to comprehend the reality of fighting and attacks as well as life in the trenches, they watched a film clip extracted from “Les croix de bois” (the wooden crosses), adapted from the novel by Roland Dorgelès, and read original letters written by French soldiers. They have gathered information about the battle of Verdun (1916).

With this unit, they have paid homage to the courage of these soldiers and have honored their memory. Above all else, the students have learned the importance of remembrance and the lesson of peace.
