Posted 05/07/2014 10:46AM
Grade 3 went to Shenzhen Lianhuashan Park to fly kites on April 30th. The students explored the local community while flying their kites.
It is common for Chinese people to experience Qingming Festival and go outside to enjoy the greenery of springtime(踏青Tàqīng, "treading on the greenery") and appreciate the nature. Flying kites is also one of the traditional outdoor activities. Before the trip, Grade 3 students actually learned about the Qingming Festival and kites. They also compared Chinese culture and their own countries.
During the trip, the students not only saw a nice park where local people usually fly kites during the spring season, but also experienced how to set up a kite and learned an easy way to fly kites. It's so amazing to see the students on the grass flying kites. There was teamworking and setting up kites and flying kites , and also the encouragement among the students when facing problems, especially the patience and determination needed to solve the mess of string.
At the end of the trip, the grade 3 students still wanted to fly kites more... Indeed, when the wind blows, why not go out to experience the spring season and fly a kite with your family? If you are lucky, you might be able to bump into our more experienced 3rd graders at the kite range!
