Middle School Stuco: building community.
Middle School Student Council continue to go from strength to strength. At the start of the year they spent time creating their year long goals and have focused on building community and a spirit of inclusivity here at Bayside.
Through obtaining ideas from their advisories to discussing the feedback they have sought from each event or activity they continue to try and ensure they have maximum participants, fun and build connections. Just this past week the Stuco committees organized two events for Pi day at lunch time and held a spirit day to celebrate St Patricks day on Monday.
It was amazing to watch a large group of middle school students stand up in front of the rest of the school and recite as many digits as they could for Pi - the winner receiving a home cooked pie - Congratulations Caroline Peng! On Friday they organized a pancake making competition all based on mathematical precision - the pancakes being judged on an even circumference as well as aesthetic look - great job middle school.
On Monday we saw green - middle school students and teachers showed their SIS spirit by wearing green, it was great to watch the school unite amid a wash of green clothing.
Stuco have many more events planned - we have 2 more dances (in addition to the 3 they have already held) to have before the end of the year - they are looking forward to the semi-formal dance (the middle school version of a prom), and i’m sure they will have many activities throughout the dance to meet the diverse needs of our student population - the movie theater in the drama room has proved popular each dance as well as the cookie decorating!
From dance offs to memory games, from celebrating student success to leading our assemblies, middle school Stuco are well on their way to surpassing their goals for the year. Its been a pleasure to watch them grow in their roles and as leaders.
