As our first unit comes to a close, second graders were tasked with interviewing leaders in our SIS community. Their learning journey in our unit "Who We Are" began with exploring what a community is then identifying members within those communities. As students started learning about the responsibilities of leaders, we decided that an authentic experience would be to ask our leaders how they help support our SIS community. Each of the four classes collaborated to create a list of questions for Mr. Kanabar, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Kuemmerlin, and Ms. Laurie. The students wanted to learn more about their specific roles and how they help the SIS community. After the interviews, students took that information to identify different qualities that a leader may have. To end our unit, students will create a visual to demonstrate their understanding of communities as well as leadership qualities in themselves and others.
